The Newfoundland Regiment beat the Cape Breton Eagles 6-2 Friday night at Mary Brown’s Centre to tie the series at 1-1.

Blake Pilgrim-Edwards opened the scoring five minutes into the game, and Newfoundland held that 1-0 lead throughout the first period.

Dawson Sharkey and Justin Larose pushed it to 3-0 early in the second before the Eagles responded with two straight to make it 3-2 heading into the third.

Pilgrim-Edwards and Larose both scored again in the third and Louis-Francois Belanger made it six with 90 seconds left to close it out.

Both Pilgrim-Edwards and Larose finished with two goals each. Goaltender Louis-Antoine Denault made 20 saves to earn his first win of the playoffs.

The two teams now have three days off before the series resumes in Sydney. Game 3 is Tuesday night at Centre 200. Games 6 and 7, if needed, return to Mary Brown’s Centre.
