Regiment beat Eagles 3-2 in shootout
The Newfoundland Regiment beat the Cape Breton Eagles 3-2 in a shootout Saturday night at Centre 200 in Sydney, bouncing back from a 3-1 loss to the same team Friday.
Marek Danicek scored 7:33 into the first period putting the Regiment up 1-0, but Raoul Boilard tied it up 27 seconds later. Ryan Dwyer scored late in the first period to put Newfoundland ahead 2-1.
Maxime Sauthier scored three minutes into the second period for Cape Breton to make it 2-2. The score stayed tied through the third period and overtime.
Justin Larose and Alexis Michaud both scored in the shootout for the Regiment. Goalie Antoine Proulx stopped both Cape Breton shooters to secure the win.
Proulx made 27 saves in the game. The victory was Newfoundland’s first against the Eagles in six meetings this season.
The Regiment travel to Moncton Sunday to face the Wildcats and wrap up a three-game weekend. Tickets for all remaining home games in February and March are available at tickets.nlregiment.com.
