RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador and the Department of Government Services partnered on a pair of traffic safety checkpoint near Holyrood on Saturday. In total, around 250 vehicles were checked to ensure drivers were operating safe and sober.

On Jan. 17, officers with RCMP Traffic Services East teamed up with Highway Enforcement Officers at checkpoints on Routes 60 (Conception Bay Highway) and 62 (Liam Hickey Drive). Vehicles were checked for impaired and distracted drivers, seatbelt use, proper licences and documentation, roadworthiness and safe operation.

In total, officers checked approximately 250 vehicles and issued four tickets: three under the Highway Traffic Act for operating without insurance, operating without a valid registration and improper tint and one under the Cannabis Control Act for having open cannabis available while driving a motor vehicle.

The driver ticketed for operating without insurance also had his vehicle seized by police and impounded.
