RCMP suspends licence, seizes vehicle of impaired driver in lunchtime stop

Justice, News

Police recently issued a roadside suspension to a 36-year-old man found driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Feb. 11, around 11:50 a.m., an officer patrolling the Trans-Canada Highway near Whitbourne observed a vehicle stopped on the side of the highway. When police approached the car to speak with the driver, the 36-year-old St. John’s man showed signs of possible intoxication.

A roadside breath test confirmed that the driver was operating above the provincial limit, but below the criminal threshold for impaired operation. He was immediately issued a seven-day roadside suspension, and his vehicle was seized and impounded by police.
