RCMP Emergency Response Team and Harbour Grace RCMP arrest man at Carbonear residence
Trinity-Conception District RCMP and Newfoundland and Labrador’s RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), with assistance from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) arrested one man during a police operation at a home in Carbonear on Thursday afternoon.
On May 28, police opened a criminal investigation after a victim reported incidents of assault and uttering threats, and allegations of unlawful confinement. The suspect was identified and police located that individual in the Carbonear area.
Due to the possibility of a weapon being present, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) was deployed to assist with the arrest, and a public notice was issued asking residents to avoid the area. Additional resources from Avalon East District RCMP and RCMP Traffic Services East were also engaged to assist with the police operation.
A 42-year-old Western Bay man was taken into police custody without incident. Search warrants were obtained and executed at the residence in Carbonear and another location in Job’s Cove, which resulted in the seizure of a firearm.
He was held in custody to appear in Harbour Grace Provincial Court today. He faces multiple charges including four counts of assault, and one count each of assault with a weapon or imitation and forcible confinement.
The investigation is continuing with additional charges possible, but there is no concern for public safety at this time.
