RCMP arrests man after flight from police
Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP arrested 26-year-old Cody Torraville early Sunday morning after he fled from police, crashed his vehicle and attempted to leave the scene on foot early Sunday morning.
Shortly after 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Hardy Avenue. The vehicle did not stop, and the operator caused minor damage to a marked police vehicle before fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed. Police did not engage in a pursuit in the interest of public safety. The same vehicle had failed to stop for the RCMP in Grand Falls-Windsor on Saturday, and the operator was known to police.
Just before 12:30 a.m. police received a report of a collision near the intersection of Harris Avenue and Brown Avenue involving the same suspect vehicle. Officers responded to the scene and determined that Torraville had fled into a nearby wooded area. RCMP Police Dog Services was engaged, however Torraville was located and arrested by officers without further incident.
He was transported to hospital for treatment of the injuries he sustained in relation to the collision. He was held in police custody over the weekend to appear before the courts.
In addition to several charges he faces under the Highway Traffic Act, 26-year-old Cody Torraville faces charges under the Criminal Code:
- Flight from police – 3 counts;
- Assault a police officer;
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
- Operations while impaired by drug;
- Failure to stop after an accident;
- Fail to comply with a condition of a Release Order;
- Fail to comply with a condition of an Undertaking – 3 counts.
