Quinlan Brothers ‘vindicated’ as court dismisses charges of processing dead snow crab

Business, Justice, News

It was big news for Quinlan Brothers Ltd. Thursday as the court dismissed all charges related to the production and handling of dead snow crab at their Bay de Verde facility from 2024.

According to a news release from the company, the Crown’s review determined there was no reasonable evidence to support the charges.

Charges were laid against Quinlan Brothers Ltd. in July of 2024 for processing dead snow crab and moving snow crab while under detention. President Robin Quinlan said at that time “$500,000 worth of perfectly good crab was detained and then illegally destroyed by provincial inspectors.”

Quinlan says for next steps the company will be seeking a meeting with the new provincial fisheries minister to discuss enforcement practices and the financial losses from the seizure of product in 2024.
