The province is mourning the loss of a renowned seabird biologist and environmental advocate. Bill Montevecchi passed away this weekend.
Montevecchi dedicated his life to understanding birds and marine life. He spent more than four decades as a professor at Memorial University, building its seabird research program and mentoring many marine science leaders across Canada. His work lives on through research programs at the university, and the protected seabird colonies he led to establish.
He also spent a lot of time working with fish harvesters across the province, sharing their knowledge and love of the ocean, and a desire to protect it. A scholarship fund will be established in his name. Bill Montevecchi was 80 years old.
