Premier Wakeham pledges full support for Ottawa amid trade war with U.S.
Premier Tony Wakeham says Prime Minister Mark Carney has his full support, after a tentative trade deal between Canada and the U.S. collapsed over the weekend.
In a post made to social media Wakeham said, “Newfoundland and Labrador stands firmly with Team Canada. I want to thank the negotiating team for their hard work and dedication in navigating discussions with an unpredictable partner.
Prime Minister Mark Carney has my full support as we maintain a united Team Canada approach. Newfoundland and Labrador stands ready to do its part.”
The Prime Minister announced Canada will match American tariffs dollar-for-dollar, a move that will take effect on September 8.
