Placentia-Whitbourne RCMP arrest man for breaching conditions outside detachment
Placentia-Whitbourne RCMP arrested a 33-year-old man on Thursday after he was found violating his court-imposed release conditions.
On June 25, Stephen Leonard, 33, arrived at the RCMP detachment to check in, which was a court-imposed condition of his release in relation to a previous incident. However, officers quickly discovered that he was violating a different condition of his release — the driver of the car Leonard arrived in was an individual he was prohibited from being in contact with.
Leonard was arrested for failing to comply with his release order conditions and held in custody overnight. He was scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on June 26.
RCMP officers across the province regularly conduct checks to ensure compliance with court-imposed conditions. Many of these individuals are repeat offenders, known to police and in their communities, and ensuring they comply with their conditions helps reduce repeat crime and enhances public safety.
Continued monitoring and follow up checks also allows police to intervene quickly when conditions are breached, while also recognizing and supporting those who are complying.
