NL Folk Festival returns to Bannerman Park for a free day of music and culture
The Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Arts Society is welcoming the community back to Bannerman Park on August 8 for the return of the Annual Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival. This year’s event is being called the Festival’s “49½ edition”, a smaller celebration as the organization continues rebuilding and prepares for its milestone 50th anniversary next year.
Thanks to funding from the provincial government, admission is free for everyone, although donations will be accepted to help support the Festival’s future. Organizers say the event is returning because of strong community support and a shared commitment to keeping the long-running tradition alive.
The Festival will feature a full day of entertainment, beginning with morning performances on the small stage before the main stage comes alive in the afternoon with traditional, folk, and world music. The lineup includes familiar favourites such as Kelly Russell, Jim Payne and Fergus O’Byrne, Anita Best and Pamela Morgan, Andy Jones, and several emerging performers.
This year’s scaled-back celebration will not include food vendors, a beer tent, or other concessions, so attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy a day of music with family and friends. Organizers say more details, including the complete performance schedule, will be announced in the coming weeks.
