Nain RCMP responds to disturbance; wanted man arrested, two officers assaulted
Nain RCMP has laid criminal charges of assault on a police officer, and assault on a police officer causing bodily harm against 23-year-old Tyrese Rich of Natuashish. Rich was apprehended on an unendorsed warrant for his arrest, after police responded to a disturbance inside a Nain home Sunday afternoon.
Just before 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 25, police responded to a disturbance inside a home on Middlepath Road. Officers located and arrested Tyrese Rich, 23, who was found to be breaching the conditions of each a release order, and his probation order. Rich was also the subject of an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Rich resisted and failed to comply with police commands and assaulted an officer.
Later that evening, an officer was assaulted by Rich in the detachment cell block. The officer sustained serious injuries and was treated in local hospital and transferred to a larger medical facility for further medical treatment and care. Their injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Rich was held in police custody overnight and appeared in court on Monday January 26, 2026, to answer to his outstanding warrant and a number of new charges under the Criminal Code including:
- Assault on a police officer,
- Assault on a police officer causing bodily harm,
- Failure to comply with conditions of a release order,
- Failure to comply with conditions of a probation order.
Rich was remanded by the courts and is expected to appear in provincial court on Feb. 24.
