Mark Nichols joins Matt Dunstone rink for upcoming curling season
Big news for local curling fans. Former Olympian and six-time Brier champion Mark Nichols has a new team. Team Dunstone made it official this morning, confirming Nichols will join the Winnipeg-based rink for the upcoming curling season.
with E.J. Harnden stepping back from the sport, the Labrador City native will throw second stones for the defending Brier champs – who just won silver at the world championship. Nichols is the final and most high-profile member of the Brad Gushue rink to find a new team. The Gushue foursome folded after skip Brad Gushue retired following last month’s Brier.
Nichols, 46, is a legend in the sport, a two-time Olympic medallist, six-time Brier champion, not to mention numerous Grand Slam titles.
Local curling fans watched Matt Dunstone beat Brad Jacobs to win the Brier in St. John’s in early Match.
