Man charged with two counts of arson named suspect in nine other suspicious fires
The man who was arrested for allegedly intentionally setting two fires in St. John’s that caused structural damage to communications infrastructure is the suspect for nine other suspicious fires that were set near communication towers and pole line areas. That’s the latest from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
30-year-old Patrick Greer appeared before a judge today. He has been charged with two counts of arson, and two counts of mischief cause property damage. Today the RNC confirmed that Greer is also the suspect for nine other suspicious fires that occurred on July 15 to July 20, 2026.
On Tuesday, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary announced they were investigating a string of suspicious fires that were set throughout the Metro region between Saturday and Monday evening. Another fire was discovered on Tuesday, and it was determined that fire was set on Monday at a radio tower on Densmore’s Lane.
Greer was arrested in connection with the two most recent fires. RNC said on Tuesday that fire investigators believe all fires are connected, and were targeting communications infrastructure. An investigation into the other nine suspicious fires remain under investigation, however the RNC says they don’t have a reason to believe anyone else is involved in these incidents.
Bell Aliant has confirmed that four of their sites were damaged in these targeted attacks, and that damage has impacted network infrastructure, reducing wireless coverage and capacity in parts of St. John’s. Bell says their teams are working around the clock to restore affected sites.
Greer’s case was set over as police continue to investigate. He is due back in court on Wednesday for a bail hearing.
