Local Robotics teams to compete at world championship

News

This past December, at the provincial championship, two teams from this province earned the opportunity to compete at the FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston Texas from April 29th to May 2nd. This is the most prestigious achievement in the world of youth robotics.

This is the largest K-12 robotics competition in the world with over 1,000 teams in attendance. Newfoundland and Labrador will have teams competing in the FIRST Lego League and FIRST Tech Challenge competitions at the world championship. This is the first time since 2019 a team from this province has competed in the FIRST Lego League competition and the first time ever a team from NL has competed in the FIRST Tech Challenge competition.

Representing NL in the FIRST Lego League competition is the Pearce Panthers, from Pearce Junior High, in Burin Bay Arm. This team has placed first overall at the last two provincial championship tournaments and has previously competed at the 2025 Sunshine Invitational tournament in Florida.

Representing NL in the FIRST Tech Challenge competition is the Indy’s Innovators, from Roncalli Central High, in Avondale. This team placed first overall at this season’s provincial championship tournament. They are the first ever provincial champions in FIRST Tech Challenge.

Alongside these two champion teams, four other schools/teams will be traveling to competitions around North America this summer. Competing in the Canada Cup of Robotics in St. Catharines Ontario is:
