Local family searching for liver donor for baby Hazel
A family from this province is reaching out to the community with hope and urgency as they search for a liver donor for their young daughter Hazel.
Hazel was born with a very rare liver disease called biliary atresia, which impacts about 1 in 14,000 children. At just 8 weeks old she underwent a surgery aimed to remove blockages in the bile ducts of her liver, sadly the procedure was not successful.
In early December, Hazel’s health took a sudden and serious turn and she spent six weeks in hospital. She was then transferred to Toronto Sick Kids hospital, where she is now undergoing assessment for a liver transplant.
The donor must be between 18-50 years old, and have 0+ or 0- blood type.
Stephen, Hazel’s father, is seeking support to help ease the financial burden as he will be off work during this time. They have organized a GoFundMe page you can find here.
