Lewisporte RCMP recovers two stolen vehicles in Campbellton, woman arrested and charged
Lewisporte RCMP arrested an 18-year-old woman Sunday morning after she was found walking away from a stolen vehicle crashed in the Campbellton area. She was connected to another stolen vehicle abandoned in the community and now faces charges under the Criminal Code.
Shortly after 8:30 a.m. on August 16, Lewisporte and Twillingate RCMP responded to a report of a passenger vehicle stolen from outside a home along Bob Clarke Drive in Campbellton. The suspect was identified and a description of the stolen vehicle was provided to police.
Officers responded to the area and conducted patrols. The stolen vehicle was located unoccupied and damaged following a single-vehicle crash along Comfort Cove Road. The suspect was located nearby and taken into police without incident.
A 35-year-old man was also arrested and later released without charge.
Investigators also determined that the suspect arrived in the Campbellton area in a sport utility vehicle reported stolen to the Lewisporte RCMP from the Embree area on Saturday August 15.
The woman was charged with two counts of theft of a motor vehicle, and a single count of theft under $5,000. She was released on strict conditions and is expected to appear in Gander Provincial Court on October 27.
The investigation is continuing, and additional charges are possible.
