Justice, News

Lewisporte RCMP arrested a 67-year-old man for impaired operation after responding to a single vehicle crash on Premier Drive Thursday night. On July 2, shortly before 9:00 p.m., police responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on Premier Drive in Lewisporte. The caller who reported the crash also expressed concerns that the driver might be impaired.

Officers responded to the scene and located the vehicle off the roadway in the ditch. The driver showed signs of impairment and failed a roadside test. The 67-year-old man was arrested and transported to the detachment in Gander, where he provided additional breath samples that were twice the legal limit. His vehicle was seized and impounded and his licence suspended.

The man was released from police custody and is expected to appear in Gander Provincial Court in September 2026, to answer to charges of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and impaired operation over 80 mg%.

Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is a dangerous and reckless choice that can cause life-altering injury or death. Always have a safe plan to get home: you can call a friend, have a designated, use a rideshare, taxi or public transportation or stay the night.
