Lady Cove to represent province at Prestigious Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod
Lady Cove Women’s Choir has been selected to compete at the renowned Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales this July, joining hundreds of performers from around the world at one of the most respected choral and performing arts festivals on the international stage.
Founded in 1947, the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod has welcomed competitors from more than 140 countries and has hosted many of the world’s finest choirs and performers. The festival is perhaps most famously associated with the late Luciano Pavarotti, whose choir won first prize there in 1955 before he went on to become one of the greatest tenors in history.
Lady Cove will travel to Wales as part of a 52-member touring delegation, representing Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada in the festival’s choral competitions. More than 4,000 performers from dozens of countries are expected to participate in this year’s event, which takes place from July 7–12 in the iconic 4,000-seat Royal International Pavilion in Llangollen.
For Lady Cove, participation in the festival marks a significant milestone in the choir’s nearly three-decade history. Since its founding in 1996, the award-winning ensemble has become one of Atlantic Canada’s leading choirs, known for its artistic excellence, innovative programming, and commitment to fostering community through music.
In addition to competing at the Eisteddfod, Lady Cove will participate in the festival’s celebrated Parade of Nations, joining singers from around the globe in a colourful display of cultural pride and international friendship. The choir will also perform at various venues throughout Wales and Ireland during its tour, sharing Newfoundland and Labrador’s rich musical traditions with international audiences.
“Being invited to perform and compete at Llangollen is an incredible honour,” said Kellie Walsh, Artistic Director of Lady Cove. “This festival represents the very best of international choral music and cultural exchange. Our singers have worked tremendously hard in preparation for this opportunity, and we are proud to represent our province, our country, and the vibrant choral community of Newfoundland and Labrador on the world stage.”
The tour will also include performances in Ireland, highlighted by a concert at the historic St. John’s Lane Church in Dublin on July 15th at 7:00 pm, with artists James and Dean. Through these performances, Lady Cove hopes to build new artistic connections while showcasing the unique musical spirit and culture of Newfoundland and Labrador.
