Labrador District GIS arrests man after traffic stop results in seizure of drugs, cash

A 40-year-old man was arrested by the RCMP Labrador District General Investigation Section (GIS) on Thursday during a traffic stop that resulted in the seizure of suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia and cash.

On June 11, officers conducting proactive patrols in Happy Valley-Goose Bay stopped a vehicle in the Mud Lake Road area. When the officers approached the vehicle, they observed an illegal substance inside. The driver and two passengers were arrested and exited the vehicle without incident.

With the assistance of officers from the Happy Valley-Goose Bay detachment and Police Dog Services, the vehicle and its occupants were searched. During the search, police located and seized a quantity of suspected cocaine, pills, cash and items consistent with drug trafficking activities.

One passenger was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. The 40-year-old Sheshatshiu man was released from custody with conditions and will appear in provincial court in August 2026.

The driver and the remaining passenger were released without charge.

The investigation is continuing, with further charges possible.
