Harbour Grace RCMP investigates suspicious fires

RCMP in Harbour Grace are investigating two fires in recent days that resulted in damages to common areas inside a local apartment building. Both fires were quickly extinguished before they could spread, and investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them.

On Monday August 17, shortly after 11:00 p.m., police responded to a report of a fire discovered inside the hallway of Harvey Street Apartments in Harbour Grace. The fire was fully extinguished by the Harbour Grace Volunteer Fire Brigade, with support from the quick actions of building residents who made the discovery and called 911.

At approximately 12:42 a.m. on Sunday August 9, Harbour Grace RCMP and members of the Harbour Grace Volunteer Fire Brigade responded to a small fire discovered in the apartment building’s front lobby. This fire was also quickly extinguished and caused minimal damages.

No injuries were reported to police in either incident.

The provincial Fire Commissioner’s Office has been engaged, and the cause of the fires remain under investigation at this time.
