Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP and Labrador District GIS arrest man for breach of conditions

Justice, News

Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP and Labrador District General Investigation Section (GIS) arrested 30-year-old Clinton Simms on Wednesday morning, after police confirmed he was violating his court-ordered release conditions.

On March 4, shortly before 2:00 a.m., an officer conducted a compliance check to confirm that Simms was inside his residence and abiding by the curfew detailed in his release order. When the officer arrived, Simms was not inside and police began patrols to locate him.

Later that morning, Labrador District GIS identified Simms as a passenger during a traffic stop and arrested him for violating his court-ordered conditions. He was transported to the detachment and charged with failure to comply with a release order.

Simms was held in custody to appear in provincial court Thursday.

Across the province, RCMP officers conduct checks to ensure compliance with court-ordered conditions, with the goals of reducing repeat crime and enhancing public safety. Continued monitoring and follow up checks also allows police to intervene quickly when conditions are breached, while also recognizing and supporting those who are complying.
