Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP responds to man experiencing mental health crisis, firearms seized
Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP responded to a report of a man experiencing a mental health crisis at a remote cabin in the Badger area. The 61-year-old man was later located and safely apprehended.
On December 1, 2025, Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP responded to a report of threats made by an individual experiencing a mental health crisis. Police learned that the 61-year-old man was intoxicated and in possession of multiple firearms.
Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP officers established an area of containment around the man’s cabin in the Badger area, and engaged the RCMP’s Critical Incident Program. The RCMP NL Emergency Response Team (ERT) was deployed to the region to assist.
Officers located the 61-year-old man in the wooded area surrounding his cabin. He was apprehended without incident, under the NL Mental Health Care and Treatment Act.
He was initially assessed medically by a specially trained Tactical Medic with the RCMP Tactical Medicine Program as a precaution for his prolonged exposure to cold temperatures. He was then further assessed and treated by emergency paramedics with NL Health Services and members of the Central Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT).
RCMP NL seized a number of firearms from the man’s cabin for safekeeping and to ensure public safety.
