Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP arrest man for impaired operation after single-vehicle crash
Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP arrested a 61-year-old man for impaired operation after responding to a single vehicle crash in Point of Bay Friday afternoon. Police also charged him for driving while prohibited and executed an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
On July 24, shortly after 3:30 p.m., Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on Route 352 just north of Point of Bay. Officers responded to the scene and located the vehicle off the roadway. Open alcohol containers were located inside the vehicle.
The driver had been transported to hospital by Emergency Medical Services personnel prior to officers’ arrival for treatment of injuries not believed to be life-threatening in nature.
Officers attended the hospital and identified the driver as a 61-year-old Phillips Head man. He showed signs of impairment and was provided with a demand for a blood sample.
The investigation also determined the man was a prohibited driver and was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on a previous charge related to prohibited driving.
He is expected to appear in court at a future date on that prior charge, as well as a new charge of driving while prohibited. Police are waiting on the results of laboratory testing to determine if charges of impaired operation are also appropriate.
