Glovertown RCMP responds to moose collision, driver charged with impaired refusal
Glovertown RCMP arrested a 46-year-old man on Saturday night, after he was involved in a moose-vehicle collision and refused to provide police with a blood sample during their investigation.
On March 21, shortly before 4:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a moose-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway near Gambo. Emergency medical services personnel and the Gambo Fire Department were on scene when officers arrived. The driver of the vehicle, a 46-year-old Catalina man, was transported to hospital in Gander with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police observed signs of impairment at the scene, and provided the driver with a demand for a blood sample at the hospital, which he refused. He was arrested and charged with impaired operation and failure or refusal to provide a sample.
His driver’s licence, which was suspended at the time of the crash, was further suspended, and the vehicle was impounded.
He is expected to appear in provincial court in August 2026.
