Gander RCMP arrests three impaired drivers during weekend traffic stops
Three drivers were arrested for impaired operation by RCMP in Central Newfoundland over the weekend after traffic stops in New-Wes-Valley, Gander and Gambo.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, police received a call from a concerned resident about a possible impaired driver. Officers attended the residence of the involved vehicle’s owner and arrested a 43-year-old female for impaired driving. During her arrest, the woman became combative with police, causing damage to equipment.
She was transported to the detachment, where a breath test confirmed she was over the legal limit. Her vehicle was seized and impounded and her license was suspended. She will appear in court at a later date to answer to charges of impaired operation over 80mg% and mischief under $5,000.00.
On Sunday, Feb. 1, a 41-year-old man was arrested after Gander RCMP responded to a public report of a possible intoxicated driver leaving the Farewell Ferry Terminal. At approximately 5:15 p.m., police identified the described vehicle on Gander Bay Road and initiated a traffic stop. A roadside breath test was administered, and the driver was arrested for impaired operation. He provided two additional breath samples in excess of the legal limit. His vehicle was seized and impounded, license suspended and he was released on conditions. He will appear in court at a later date to answer to impaired driving charges.
Around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Glovertown RCMP were on patrol in Gambo when they identified a vehicle operating with an expired registration and conducted a traffic stop. The driver — a 50-year-old woman — showed signs of impairment and was arrested for impaired operation. She was transported to the detachment where she provided two breath samples over the legal limit. Her vehicle was seized and impounded, her license was suspended and she will appear in court at a later date to answer to charges of impaired operation over 80mg%.
