Frank Howard, President of Capital Auto Group, passes away

Business, News

Capital Auto Group has shared that their President and Founder, Frank Howard, passed away on December 4 surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

For over 50 years, Frank was a dynamic and influential leader in Newfoundland and Labrador’s business and automotive community. From humble beginnings and a single dealership, he built what became Capital Auto Group, a team of more than 500 employees across 10 automotive brands, and The Howard Group, which oversees the Howard Properties real estate portfolio. His leadership, integrity, and vision earned him countless honours, including the CADA Laureate Award for Ambassadorship and, most recently, induction into the JANL Business Hall of Fame.

Frank’s entrepreneurial success was matched only by his generosity. He believed that the greatest success in business was the ability to give back to the community that supported him. Through his philanthropy, he selflessly contributed to local charities and organizations such as the Health Care Foundation, Daffodil Place, Janeway Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, The Gathering Place, and many others. His impact, professionally and personally, will be felt for generations.

Above all else, Frank was a devoted family man. He cherished his wife, Annette, and took immense pride in his children, Jon (Kristy), Jordan, Mike (Maria), Nick (Sukriti), and his grandchildren Logan, Madden, Molly, and Roman. His happiest moments were those spent together, and his love for his family was at the heart of everything he built.

The Howard family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all their family, friends, and the healthcare professionals at the Health Sciences Centre and The Ottawa Hospital. In lieu of a wake and funeral, details regarding a celebration of life to honour Frank’s memory will be shared in the near future.
