Downtown kitchen fire sends two people to hospital
A cooking mishap in downtown St. John’s on Monday evening sent two people to hospital.
Shortly before 5:00 p.m. firefighters were alerted by a neighbour to the incident, on Casey Street. When crews arrived they found the residents of a home had managed to gain the upper hand on a fat fire, however smoke had filled the kitchen, causing moderate damage. Firefighters used a fan to clear smoke from the home.
SJRFD Platoon Chief Jeff Hatcher said that two people were taken to hospital, with what was described as minor smoke inhalation. A third person was treated at the scene.
It was unknown at the time if any residents of the home would be displaced as a result of the incident.
