Dates moved for first-degree murder sentencing
It was just two months ago when Dean Penney was found guilty of first degree murder of his estranged wife, Jennifer Hillier-Penney. Penney’s sentencing hearing was scheduled for November, but that date has now been moved even earlier, to September 11th, according to Corner Brook’s Supreme Court.
Dean Penney’s murder trial spanned over two months, as several witnesses took the stand, including the under cover RCMP officers who were part of the Mr. Big operation, an undercover operation that spanned more than four years which revealed Dean Penney’s involvement in his wife’s disappearance in St. Anthony in November of 2016.
Dean Penney confessed to killing his wife with a mallet-like hammer, and dropping her body into the ocean near his cabin. Jennifer’s family has been fighting for justice for nearly a decade. First degree murder carries an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.
Jennifer’s family will provide their impact statements.
