Cree Nation community in Quebec in lockdown after reported fatalities from shooting
The Cree Nation of Mistissini, located in northern Quebec, is under a lockdown notice this morning after two men were reportedly killed. In a social media statement, Chief Michael Petawabano asked residents to stay indoors. Schools and all community buildings are closed and travel in and out of the community is restricted.
“Our hearts are heavy with grief for the lives lost and the families affected by this tragedy,” said Chief Michael Petawabano in a statement.
The lockdown, which was issued last night, remains in place until authorities confirm it is safe to resume normal activities.
