Clarenville RCMP arrests impaired driver
Clarenville RCMP arrested a 23-year-old man early Saturday morning, after responding to a report about a suspected impaired driver.
Shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Feb. 28, RCMP in Clarenville received a call about a possible impaired driver, who was operating in an erratic manner and threatening other drivers in the Marine Drive area. Police began patrols and located the described vehicle a short time later. A traffic stop was initiated, and officers observed signs of impairment and open alcohol containers in the vehicle.
The driver, a 23-year-old man, failed a roadside breath test and was placed under arrest for impaired operation. He was transported to the detachment, where he provided additional samples that were more than twice the legal limit.
His vehicle was seized and impounded, and his driver’s licence was suspended.
The man was released from custody and will appear in provincial court at a future date.
