Clarenville RCMP arrests ATV operator for dangerous operation, flight from police
Clarenville RCMP charged a 20-year-old man after he fled from officers on an all-terrain vehicle during an attempted traffic stop early Sunday morning.
On August 23, around 1:00 a.m., police conducting proactive patrols in the Shoal Harbour area attempted to stop a group of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) on a nearby trail to check for operator impairment. One operator was observed performing a stunt, when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to comply and fled from the scene.
Patrols continued and the suspect and vehicle were located nearby. The operator, a 20-year-old man, was arrested without incident for flight from police and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
He was released from custody and will appear in provincial court at a later date. His ATV was seized and impounded by police.
Off-road vehicle operators are reminded that they are required to wear a helmet, and responsible for understanding and abiding by all applicable laws and regulations. This includes the requirement to stop for police, and failure to do so can result in criminal charges of flight from police.
