Catalina man suspected of impaired driving arrested after moose collision
A suspected impaired driver was taken into custody over the weekend after a collision with a moose in the Trans-Canada Highway in Gambo.
It happened shortly before 4:30 Sunday morning. Emergency medical services personnel and the Gambo Fire Department were on the scene when RCMP officers arrived.
The driver of the vehicle — a 46-year-old Catalina man — was taken to hospital in Gander with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Officers noticed signs of impairment at the scene, but the driver refused a blood sample. He was arrested and charged with impaired driving and refusing a blood demand. His driver’s licence had already been suspended from a prior incident and the vehicle was impounded.
The man was released from custody with a promise to appear in provincial court in August.
