Canada’s women’s hockey team claims silver in Olympic heart-breaker; men’s team plays semifinal today

News, Sports

It was a game for the ages.

Team Canada has captured silver in women’s hockey at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Italy.

Canada looked like they were in a position to upset the United States. The defending champs led late into the third period. However, Canada would fall 2-1 in overtime to the United States in the final. Kristin O’Neill scored Canada’s lone goal, a short-handed marker that looked like the winner until the U.S. evened the game late with their goaltender on the bench to use an extra attacker.

Canada has medalled in every Olympic Winter Games that has included women’s hockey, winning five gold and three silver.

Meanwhile, the men’s team have a big game on the schedule today, a semifinal matchup against Finland. That game goes around 12:15 p.m. NL time. The winner advances to the gold medal game.
