Canada’s World Cup dream comes to an end after loss to Morocco

News, Sports

Canada’s incredible run at the FIFA World Cup came to an end Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Morocco.

It was a David vs. Goliath matchup in Houston as 30th ranked Canada faced 6th ranked Morocco in the Round of 16. Canada performed well in the first half, dominating play and getting the best scoring chances. But the team couldn’t hold on as Morocco scored five minutes into the second half and added two late goals to clinch the win.

Still, the 2026 World Cup will be remembered as a new high-water mark for the Canadian men’s national soccer team. The squad recorded Canada’s first ever victories at a World Cup, one of them in the knockout round over South Africa.

Morocco will now advance to the quarterfinals, where they will play either France or Paraguay.
