Canada to play for Olympic gold in men’s hockey; Maltais wins third medal at Games

Canada’s men’s hockey team will play for gold at the 2026 winter Olympics in Italy. Nathan MacKinnon was the hero, scoring the winning goal, on the power play, with just 35 left on the clock in a 3-2 thriller over Finland.

The Finns gave Canadian hockey fans a scare, but the defending champs rallied from a 2-0 deficit to punch their ticket into Sunday’s gold medal final. Sam Reinhart and Shea Theodore had the other goals for Canada, while captain Connor MacDavid recording a pair of assists.

Meanwhile, more hardware for Canada in speedskating as Valérie Maltais skated to the bronze medal in the women’s 1,500m in long track. It is her third medal of these Games, following bronze in the 3,000m and gold in the team pursuit event.
