Canada settles for silver medal in men’s hockey at 2026 Olympics; United States wins gold in overtime
Heartbreak for Canadian hockey fans today as the United States scored in overtime, defeating Canada, 2-1 to win gold in Italy.
The United States opened the scoring in the first period but Cale Makar would tie the game, forcing overtime.
Canada had a number of opportunities to win, with US goaltender Connor Hellebuyck making key saves late, including breakaways from Connor McDavid and Macklin Celebrini.
The Canadiens were undefeated, heading into the final, including back to back wins in the playoffs.
The United States would win gold in both the men’s and women’s events.
