C.B.S. woman facing list of charges for allegedly defrauding non-profit organization

A Conception Bay South woman is facing a long list of charges for allegedly defrauding a non-profit violence prevention organization of more than $135,000.

Valerie Barter, 50, is charged with fraud, forgery, using a forged document, mischief relating to computer data and more. Barter was the executive director of Violence Prevention Avalon East from 2020 to 2023. The investigation by the RNC’s economic crime unit began in December of 2023 after police received a report alleging fraudulent activity. Barter was also arrested on related charges in December 2024.

She has been released to appear in court at a later date.
