Bonavista RCMP seizes two vehicles during check stop

Bonavista RCMP seized two vehicles on recently during a proactive traffic check stop in Catalina, after officers discovered that one driver had adhered the incorrect license plates to his vehicle and the other was operating a vehicle without proper registration.

On the evening of June 23, officers conducting a checkpoint on Main Road in Catalina stopped 75 vehicles to validate driver licences, registration and insurance and to check for impaired drivers, seatbelt use and other vehicle safety issues.

Officers were pleased to note that no drivers stopped showed signs of impairment, however, police did seize two vehicles at the checkpoint. One 57-year-old driver was unable to provide proof of valid insurance, and gurther investigation revealed that the vehicle he was driving was also displaying invalid license plates. He was issued tickets for both offences. The vehicle was seized and impounded.

A second driver was stopped during the same checkpoint and officers determined his vehicle was unregistered. The 54-year-old man was ticketed under the Highway Traffic Act, and his vehicle was also impounded.
