Bonavista RCMP responds to call about suspicious vehicle, driver arrested for impaired care and control
Bonavista RCMP seized the vehicle of a suspected impaired driver on Wednesday night after responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle.
Around 10:30 p.m. on March 4, police received a call from a concerned resident about a suspicious, damaged vehicle parked near Church Street in Bonavista. RCMP officers attended and located the driver asleep behind the wheel.
The driver, a 38-year-old man, showed signs of drug impairment and was arrested. Police also confirmed that his driver’s licence was suspended. A small amount of suspected crack cocaine and cannabis were located and seized by officers and a blood demand was made.
The driver was transported by police to hospital, where a blood sample was collected. It will be sent for analysis to determine if charges of impaired care and control are appropriate.
The vehicle was seized and impounded by Bonavista RCMP. The driver was released from custody pending further investigation.
