Blood donors urgently needed across the country as supply drops 20 per cent
Canadian Blood Services is calling on eligible people across Canada to book a donation appointment after the blood supply declined by nearly 20 per cent since June 1.
While a seasonal decline is expected during the summer months and factored into planning, appointment bookings have fallen well below typical summer patterns. Donors of all blood types are needed now to help replenish the blood supply and keep pace with hospital demand.
Every week, Canadian Blood Services needs approximately 18,000 booked blood donation appointments to keep pace with hospital demand. Over the past six weeks, appointments have fallen short by 1,500 to 2,500 each week, requiring a draw on existing inventory to meet patient needs.
Canadian Blood Services is asking everybody who can, to book a life-saving appointment today, and donate blood.
