Ben Veitch scores again for Canada at international under-18 tournament
Canada continues to win at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton.
St. John’s native Ben Veitch scored his third goal of the tournament as Canada rode a five-goal first period to an 8-3 win over Sweden on Wednesday night, finishing the round robin a perfect 3-0.
Kayden Stroeder, 17, had a goal and two assists in Canada’s big opening 20 minutes.
Brock Cripps, Liam Pue, Ryerson Edgar, Alexis Joseph, Brock England and Maddox Schultz also found the back of the net for the Canadians.
Veitch and defenceman Quinn Norman, from Paradise, are both playing for Canada and they earned starring role for the Newfoundland Regiment in the club’s inaugural season.
The Hlinka Gretzky Cup is an annual under-18 tournament hosted by Hockey Canada, the Czech Ice Hockey Association, and the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation.
Canada will now play Finland in the semifinal Friday.
