News

A 72-year-old Bell Island man has been issued a ticket under the forestry act after RCMP attended an unauthorized fire on his property last week.

Police received a call of a potential backyard fire on Dobbins Road Friday afternoon (July 10, 2026). Officers attended the property to find a wood-burning fire in the backyard of the residence, and extinguished the blaze.

The following day, police located the property owner and served him a ticket under the Forestry Act.

RCMP is reminding residents that it’s your duty to understand the obligations under the Forestry Act. The whole province is currently under a fire ban.
