Bay St. George RCMP seizes vehicle, charges suspended driver with obstruction

Justice, News

Bay St. George RCMP arrested a 21-year-old suspended driver early Tuesday morning, after he was stopped for driving erratically and provided officers with a false identity. Around 2:45 a.m. on June 16, officers were conducting proactive patrols in Stephenville when they noticed a vehicle driving in an erratic manner on Gallant Street, and initiated a traffic stop.

Police administered a roadside breath test and determined that the driver was not impaired. However, their investigation confirmed that the identity provided by the driver was false, and that driver’s licence had been previously suspended.

The 21-year-old man was arrested, and his vehicle was seized and impounded. He is expected to appear in court in August 2026 to face one Criminal Code charge of resisting or obstructing a police officer.

He was also issued summary offense tickets under the Highway Traffic Act for:

  • Operating a vehicle with a suspended license
  • Driving without due care and attention
