Bay St. George RCMP arrest trio for theft, fraud
Two women and a man from Stephenville were arrested by Bay St. George RCMP this weekend in connection with the theft and fraudulent use of another person’s credit card.
On Saturday, Feb. 28, police received a report that a purse was stolen outside a grocery store, and that a credit card inside had been used at a retail shop on Queen Street. Police obtained video surveillance of three suspects using the victim’s card and learned that they had left the scene in a taxicab.
The suspects were later located at a residence on Gallant Street and taken into custody without incident.
Archibald Billard, 37, is charged with:
- Fraud less than or equal to $5,000
- Other theft under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Theft, forgery or misuse of credit card
- Failure to comply with probation order – two counts
Samantha Cornect, 31, faces charges of:
- Fraud less than or equal to $5,000
- Other theft under $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Theft, forgery or misuse of credit card
- Failure to comply with release order condition – three counts
Billard and Cornect both appeared in provincial court yesterday (March 2).
The third suspect, a 34-year-old woman, was arrested and released with conditions. She will appear in court in April 2026 on charges of:
- Fraud less than or equal to $5000
- Other theft under $5000
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Theft, forgery or misuse of credit card
- Failure to comply with an undertaking
The investigation remains ongoing.
