Baker Flooring Blues capture their first-ever Avalon East Senior Hockey League title; advance to Herder series

News, Sports

The Baker Flooring Conception Bay Senior Blues have captured their first-ever Avalon East Senior Hockey League (AESHL) championship, marking a historic milestone for the franchise.

The Blues finished the regular season in first place before delivering a dominant playoff performance, sweeping the defending champion Clarenville Caribous four games straight in the semifinals, followed by a commanding 4–0 series victory over the St. John’s Caps in the league finals.

Goaltender Matt Jenkins was named playoff MVP after a flawless 7–0 record in the postseason, posting an outstanding .942 save percentage. Jenkins’ steady presence between the pipes anchored a Blues squad that combined offensive firepower with disciplined, structured play throughout the playoffs.

The championship marks the first AESHL title in franchise history. The organization originated on Bell Island in 2008 before eventually relocating to Conception Bay South, where it has steadily grown into one of the league’s premier programs. With the league title secured, the Blues now advance to the Herder Memorial Championship finals, where they will face the winner of the West Coast Senior Hockey League.

The Herder series will open in Conception Bay South on March 27 and 28.
