Back-to-back golds for Canada’s women speed skaters at Winter Olympics
Canada’s medal count jumped to 12 after defending Olympic team pursuit champions Ivanie Blondin, Valérie Maltais and Isabelle Weidemann won another gold. The Canadians beat the Netherlands in the gold-medal race, erasing an early deficit to take the lead with two laps left and crossing the line just under a second ahead of the Dutch.
It’s Canada’s third gold medal in as many days after the country didn’t win one event in the first eight days of competition in Italy.
It also is the 12th medal overall for Canada, which includes four silver and five bronze.
It’s a big day for Canada with the men’s hockey team playing Czechia in playoff action, with the winner advancing to the medal round. Also, both the men’s and women’s curling teams will go head-to-head with the host nation.
