Association for New Canadians to host celebration of Black History Month today
The Association for New Canadians is hosting a celebration of Black History Month today, offered both in-person and virtually.
The event includes celebratory activities under the theme “Remembering and Celebrating (Aspects of) Black Identity” and includes the following:
· A facilitated panel in which panelists from the Black community in NL address questions exploring the theme.
· A guest lecture from Dr. Ruth Murambadoro (Gender Studies, Memorial University).
· Creative art performances involving Black Youth in the province
· A digital collage of interviews featuring Black newcomers sharing the aspects of their identity they remember and celebrate, and their reflections on the importance of remembering.
The event will be offered both in-person and virtually at the Emera Innovation Centre at 100 Signal Hill Road from 9:30am-3:00pm. Or folks can request a link for the virtual version.
