68-year-old man dead after collision on Veterans Memorial Highway

A 68-year-old man is dead after a collision on Veterans Memorial Highway on Tuesday.

At around 10 a.m. on June 9, Bay Roberts RCMP responded to a report of a motor-vehicle collision on Veterans Memorial Highway near Roaches Line. Officers from the Harbour Grace detachment, Traffic Services East and Avalon East district also assisted at the scene, alongside Emergency Medical Services Personnel, area fire departments and Highway Enforcement Officers.

Two vehicles were extensively damaged in the collision, while a third was stopped at the scene. The occupants of both vehicles were taken to St. John’s by paramedics for medical assessment and treatment.

The driver of one vehicle — a 68-year-old man — succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision. His passenger sustained injuries that are serious, but are not believed to be life-threatening. 

The injuries sustained by the driver of the other damaged vehicle are also not believed to be life-threatening in nature. 

An RCMP Traffic Collision Analyst and the East District General Investigation Section were engaged to support the ongoing investigation into the cause of the collision. Witnesses, including anyone with dash camera footage, who have not spoken with police are asked to contact Bay Roberts RCMP at 709-786-2118.
