47-year-old man dead, another seriously injured after two commercial trucks collide on TCH near Badger
One man is dead and another seriously injured after a two-vehicle collision on the Trans-Canada Highway on Tuesday.
Just after 2:15 a.m. on July 28, Grand Falls-Windsor, Baie Verte and Springdale RCMP responded to a collision between two commercial transport vehicles on the TCH near Gull Pond Bridge between Badger and South Brook. When officers arrived on the scene, the vehicles were both fully engulfed in flames.
The driver of a westbound tractor trailer suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where he is receiving continued care and treatment.
The driver of the second, eastbound truck — a 47-year-old man — was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A Collision Reconstructionist with RCMP Traffic Services attended to support the investigation, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has been engaged.
The collision forced the closure of the Trans-Canada Highway for several hours, as police investigated and provincial agencies were engaged to assess the condition of the roadway after the fire.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
